Potomac Exiles Stay Undefeated, Earn Hard win Over Schuylkill River

A week after a solid win at Pittsburgh, the Potomac Exiles travelled to the other side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike to take on their rivals from Philadelphia.

The Exiles jumped out on top with an early try from lock and Captain Ben Wiedemer eleven minutes in, after a well-executed maul. Scrum half Matt Quigley kicked it through the posts for the 7-0 lead. It took only five minutes for fly half Conor Mannix to extend the lead with a dynamic run down the right side of the field for the 12-0 advantage.

Playing a little complacent after last week’s big win, Potomac let Schuylkill off the ropes, surrendering a try around the corner, which was converted to make the game 12-7. The hosts again chipped away with a penalty kick at the 29th minute, then took the lead with a try up the middle to go up 17-12 seven minutes before the break.

After 25 minutes of back-and-forth play, Potomac broke the ice with another patient, well-executed maul to regain the lead, 19-17. After some more chippy play, Quigley connected on a penalty kick for the insurance points and 22-17 advantage. After five minutes of hard-nosed possession and defense, the visitors sealed the 22-17 win.
